Week 2 NFL Survivor Recap (2026): Buffalo Holds on Thursday Night

One Week 2 game is final: Buffalo beat Detroit 41-31 on Thursday night, and the favorite held. The Bills were priced at 64 percent at our refresh on September 15, and per SurvivorGrid’s consensus only 1.6 percent of entries were on them, so the survivor field came through Thursday almost untouched. Nearly all of the week’s risk is still ahead, concentrated on Sunday, where Tampa Bay and San Francisco each carry close to 30 percent of the field.

Thursday night

Buffalo beat Detroit 41-31 at home to open Week 2. The Bills were priced at 64 percent at our refresh on September 15, laying four and a half, so the favorite won and there is no upset to report. The two teams combined for 72 points, and the ten-point margin landed outside the number.

The survivor lens is short, because the field mostly stayed out of this game. SurvivorGrid, which averages pick distribution across Yahoo, ESPN and other public pools, had 1.6 percent of Week 2 entries on Buffalo as of Friday morning, and Detroit did not register as a meaningful share. For comparison, the same board had Tampa Bay at 29.7 percent, San Francisco at 29.0, Philadelphia at 12.4 and Baltimore at 7.2, and all four of those teams play on Sunday.

The one structural note is timing. Any pool that locks at the first kickoff of the week locked at 8:15 p.m. ET Thursday, before Friday’s injury reports existed, which means every pick in those pools was made without them.

How our picks did

Too early to grade. Nothing our Week 2 picks article recommended has kicked off. The top pick, San Francisco at home against Miami, plays Sunday afternoon. The alternative, Baltimore against New Orleans, and the save-your-studs play, Tampa Bay against Cleveland, both play in Sunday’s early window.

The one piece of the article Thursday could test was the trap watch, which named Lions at Bills as a game to be careful with. The reasoning there was about lock timing, not a prediction that Buffalo would lose, and Buffalo did not lose: the 64 percent favorite won by ten. The other two trap watch items, ownership concentration on San Francisco and the unresolved quarterback situations in the Seattle, Minnesota and Atlanta games, are all on Sunday and will be graded when they are final.

What this week teaches

Where the field’s exposure sits matters more than the order the games are played in. Thursday resolved about 1.6 percent of the field’s picks. Close to 60 percent of entries are sitting on two Sunday teams, which means a single Sunday result can reshape a pool far more than Thursday could. A 64 percent favorite loses about one time in three. Buffalo winning by ten does not make the price wrong or make Buffalo a better pick in hindsight than the number said. The result tells you what happened, the price told you the risk you were taking, and only the second one is available before kickoff.
